For several years I have relied solely on the Shure SM58 workhorse.
Recently I serviced the mic at the XLR end as I was losing signal now and then.
I decided that I would get a second mic as backup anyway – and having studied reviews about the D5, I went ahead and purchased one.
I have to say – I’m absolutely delighted by this product and now I use it as my primary mic on stage.
The great thing about the D5 is that, being a super-cardioid design, there are far fewer issues with feedback.
I’ve also noticed that, whereas the SM58 sound is “in your face” because of the hump in the response curve, the AKG D5 delivers a more pleasing sound-scape for my ears.
Overall an excellent, well built mic.
And at half the price of the SM58
